It is hard to think about winter and snow when it is still in the 80s here in Florida. Although these cute penguins are so cute and happy it put me right in the spirit. For my cards, I used the new 438 Playful Pengies stamp set. I am sure you will agree they are cuddly little creatures!
With snow themed cards, I like to made shaker cards. It gives the illusion of snow inside the shaker to resemble a snow globe.
For the first card, I kept it simple. I used the Pengie In A Hat stamp and colored it with alcohol markers. Next I used was the Snow Flurries stamp with the Dazzle VersaMark ink. This ink is a little bit more than a watermark. It gives a hint of silver color.
The last stamp I used was Santa Hat Season stamp and colored it with it with Galaxy markers. If you haven’t tried them yet, you should. These markers are excellent to use on dark cardstock. They are also great to use on acrylic pieces. Once the image was colored, I filled the shaker oval with Sparkling Snow glitter and placed it over the image.
I used the ½” double-sided Tear-ific tape to attach the card front to the base. This is my favorite tape! Then I finished it by attaching a silver snowflake and a small Christmas light bulb to the card front using glue dots.
For the second card, I thought I would get a little adventurous. I used the Candy Cane Pengie and also colored it with alcohol markers. This shaker is filled with Bridal glitter and placed it over the colored image. For the red card front I decided to make stripes to coordinate with the Penguin’s candy cane. I used 1/8” double-sided Tear-ific tape and made diagonal lines on the cardstock.
Once the entire piece was covered, I used scissors to trim the excess. Once I peeled off the backing to exposed the adhesive, I liberally poured Bridal glitter over the cardstock. I then tapped off the extra glitter over a coffee filter. I cannot believe how great coffee filters are. It still amazes me that glitter and embossing powders do not stick to them. I wonder why that is?
Next I realized I didn’t have any red and white ribbon so I made my own. Again I used the 1/8” double-sided Tear-ific tape by applying to the center of white sheer ribbon. Once I peeled off the cover, I began laying the narrow red ribbon in a line down the center. I then used a Bow-Easy to create a double looped bow. Since the ribbon was slightly slippery, I used a drop of Zip Dry Paper Glue to make sure the bow did not come undone. I finished the card by using a shank remover on two ginger people buttons (one is a girl and the other is a boy)
I hope you enjoyed my cards and try to make some shaker cards in the future. Please leave a comment on my blog to become eligible for the Grand prize and three other mystery prizes. Terrific candy cane striping - adds to the holiday fun! Thought at first it was patterned paper - beautiful work!
Dawn, I'm happy to read your tips on using the tape to make both the stripes in the background and for attaching the narrow red ribbon to the wider white one. Very clever. Wish I'd thought of that a long time ago. Thanks for sharing your nifty ideas.
